GIVING

CHARITIES and PROJECTS

We choose our charities carefully, based on certain protocol proposed by the WCPUN - these focus heavily on transparency and efficiency.

The Society is committed to helping causes which come under the umbrella of 'sustainable development in post-conflict countries', and our international causes reflect this. In addition, we have chosen to help local projects which present another level of volunteering potential.

We are focusing on a small number of organisations, but are always open to suggestions in a wide variety of fields. We feel that our members will develop the strongest relationships with causes they personally relate to.

The Society encourages giving in three ways: donating, fundraising and volunteering . We prioritise the latter two options in order to allow our members to develop fruitful relationships with the causes they are helping.

We appreciate that it may be more effective for people to donate to causes directly, but whilst we prioritise helping others, our main objective is to change a generation and create longer, more fruitful and beneficial relationships. We are teaching people to fish.

FACILITATING

We are in the process of raising money to develop an attractive app, which will allow our members, and anyone else who may be interested in giving, to seek out the most suitable projects for them and the opportunities they present.

The app will also be designed to follow peoples' giving and allocate the rewards that they have earned.

If you would like to donate to this project, or find out more information, please email aabrams@wcpun.org.

INCENTIVISING

 REWARDS SCHEME

In addition to the events, we are also creating a scheme for our members, whereby charitable action will be rewarded with unprecedented access to luxury brands, events and opportunities.

We are in the process of developing the scheme, but the idea is that membership will be invitation only – to a select and relatively low number of influential people. We currently envisage having no more than 400 members at any one time.

There will be different levels of membership (warranting different levels of rewards) depending on what charitable action members undertake, i.e. higher membership status and greater rewards for members donating more time and money. We are working on the basis that one hour of volunteering will be equal to a £200 donation.

The top 10 givers at any one time will be listed on the website.

MEMBERSHIP

Through having high profile members of our society donating time and money, the aim is to generate press and awareness amongst the general public. Whilst we are focusing our membership on a select number of just 400 people (including 40 founding members), the project itself is intended to have effects that will infiltrate throughout society.

Whilst the project is mostly invite-only (80%), there will be a percentage of membership (20%) left open to others, to be achieved by donating either 50 hours of their time, or £5,000.

Those invited will be invited due to their success in one of three categories, split as follows:

1/3: Leadership potential/ achievements

1/3: Dedication to charity

1/3: Current levels of influence.

In order to recommend someone for membership, or apply yourself, please contact aabrams@wcpun.org

Levels of membership:

The public: People can request to have access to our mailing list which will be sent out once a month and promote certain causes and charitable opportunities. They will also have access to our website, which will do the same.

Tier 1:

These will be members who have donated 5 hours or £1,000. They can choose a cause from our wider network, rather than our core focus of 5. They will have access to our website and mailing list, which will promote all of our causes and charitable opportunities, as well as our larger events.

Tier 2:

These will be members who have donated 20 hours or £4,000. They will have access to minimal discounts at major brands and some salon style dinners.

Tier 3:

These will be members who have donated 75 hours or £15,000. They will have access to all salon dinners, larger discounts and access to certain events.

Tier 4:

These will be members who have donated 150 hours or £30,000. They will have access to all the above and ‘money can’t buy’ experiences.

Elite Tier:

Anyone who has been in the top 10 givers at any one time or has raised/ donated £40,000. Members of the elite tier have the same privileges as founding members.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The Society is in its formative stages. With the launch in early 2014 and volunteering opportunities beginning in May, it is a very exciting time to be involved: we are currently developing strategy and shaping how The Society will operate. We are in the process of attracting (i) high profile founding members; (ii) elite brands to participate in the membership reward scheme and (iii) general fundraising to allow the initial movements to take place.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”.

The Society of Young Philanthropists is scheduled to launch in early 2014.
